Abnorm are a three-piece alternative rock band based in Newcastle, UK.
They are Abbie Rose (Abbie): Lead vocals, bass, songwriter, Ryan Brown: Guitar, and Adam Willis: Drums.
Formed in 2021 by musician, singer, and songwriter Abbie Rose, Abnorm is a fast-rising force in the North East’s alternative rock scene. Rats is a visceral, uncanny exploration of fear, frustration, and the things we’d rather not face, told from the perspective of the thing society fears most.
The track was written collectively by the band, sparked by drummer Adam’s real-life battle with rats living inside his walls, keeping him awake night after night. That sense of claustrophobia and helplessness bleeds into the song’s core; ‘Rats’ is about the frustrations in life we struggle to confront, the feeling of being trapped in an uncomfortable situation with no clear escape.
Abbie’s lyrics flip the narrative, written from the perspective of the rat itself, the agent of chaos, disruption, and dread. By embodying the creature so often viewed as a pest, Abnorm taps into the uncanny: the screeching, clawing, gnawing presence that drives people to disgust and fear, turning stomachs and getting on nerves.
