TĀLĀ is a British-Iranian singer, songwriter, and record producer based in London. Her sound is a unique mix of her multicultural upbringing, spanning UK garage, R&B, and traditional Iranian music.
Known for blending sounds from her Iranian heritage with UK underground scenes, TĀLĀ effortlessly creates a R&B / Electronic fusion that truly captivates. TĀLĀ first rose up through the UK scene in 2014 with the critically acclaimed self-produced ‘The Duchess’ EP released on Aesop Records.
TĀLĀ was born in Hampton to an Iranian father and an English mother. Coming from a family of mixed heritage meant she was immersed in a variety of sounds, from Iranian Googosh to Michael Ball with Garage, RnB and Hip Hop in between. She was always encouraged by her father to pick up any instrument and just play it and this freedom of expression is clear in her production style.
TĀLĀ emerged in 2014 with a rapid flurry of industry support including Channel 4’s Future Sounds, Vevo’s DSCVR, Dazed’s 100 Most Influential Creatives and sold out headline shows at The Courtyard and TheICA. She also recently executively Produced BANKS’ fourth studio album ‘Serpentina’ and worked on Enny’s ‘Champagne Problems’. She also was gratefully invited by the British Council on to their digital residency programme where she collaborated with artists from Indonesia, further expanding her credentials as a truly global artist.
TĀLĀ is a huge advocate for empowering female producers and women in tech.
I Need It’ is the third release from TĀLĀ’s highly anticipated new album, set for release this year. I Need It’ is an empowering track for embracing your power
Lyrically, ‘I Need It’ is about breaking through, doubting yourself, sitting with your fears, the voices in us that sometimes try to protect us but can sometimes limit us and what we’re capable of. The fear to express what we want and realise our power.
Speaking of the track, TĀLĀ says, “I first started working on this track in 2015. It was the first time I worked with Mssingno and I remember being really excited for this session.
The song came about later in different stages. I already had the hook but it took time to grow and evolve into what it is now. It went through many iterations and I even had my friend Lunakai jump in on the later production with me so that we could give it a fresh new life. I also had my friend Ben Bashi add live drums to take it to a whole other dimension.
For me, songs are like sculptures, refining and shaping and sometimes you have to step away for a while to really have the right perspective to finish it.
Ultimately, I just want people to enjoy listening to the track. Whether you’re getting ready for a big game, a business meeting, I want it to be the hype you need to empower yourself! It has BIG energy so that is what I want listeners to take away from it.”
