Nanseera is a rising singer-songwriter, based in Nashville USA.
Nanseera is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter with an old soul and a distinctive style. The mixed-race, London-born performer grew up in Uganda and Ethiopia, moving to the United States for high school and college. As an adult, Nanseera has spent time in France and Uganda, as well as touring the east coast of the United States. All her travels and adjustments bring a nuanced worldview into her music. Her music is a blend of genres including folk, acoustic, soul, R&B, pop, country, rock and back porch folk. Taking inspiration from artists like Tracy Chapman, Lianne LaHavas, and Sheryl Crow, she weaves together poetic stories of home, love, and belonging.
Poison Rain is a gothic folk single about the weakening of the US Voting Rights Act. It was written in response to the US Supreme Court’s recent decision to significantly weaken the Voting Rights Act that is an anti-discriminatory act intended to protect the voting rights of marginalized groups, particularly racially marginalized groups. I read an article that referenced a Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg dissent where she said, throwing out anti-discrimination laws that are working is like ‘throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.
